Irvin Reid is the ninth president of Wayne State University. His path to the WSU presidency began in a one-room school on Pawley's Island, South Carolina. He graduated from high school in Charleston, then earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Howard University, and a master's and doctorate from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to his appointment, Reid was president of Montclair State University, New Jersey. He was sworn in as president of Wayne State on November 24, 1997.
As president of WSU, Reid has put forward his own vision of the university's future -- focused on continuing and enhancing the university's long-standing relationships with surrounding communities. Reid says he is committed to developing a national reputation for Wayne State University that is worthy of its accomplishments.

National Transportation Week
National Transportation Week is an annual event celebrating the importance of the transportation industry's contributions to the economy; serving as an opportunity for transportation professionals to gather for industry-related events, meetings and conferences addressing key issues in the air, rail, trucking, shipping and automotive fields.
First observed in Houston in 1953, nearly a decade later in 1962, President John F. Kennedy declared a permanent date that would always be the week in May which contains the third Friday, National Defense Transportation Day, with Maritime Day on the following Saturday.
