David DiChiera

Dr. David DiChiera, Founder and General Director of Michigan Opera Theatre, is well know across the region as an educator, composer and arts administrator. He was the founding General Director of Opera Pacific (1986-1996), in Orange County, California, and has also served as the president of OPERA America (1979 to 1983), a national service organization for opera companies. DiChiera served as Artistic Director of the Dayton Opera Association (1981 to 1993) in Dayton, Ohio.

As General Director of Michigan Opera Theatre, Dr. DiChiera has been recognized for numerous achievements, including the commissions of two world premiere operas, the restoration of the Detroit Opera House, and the creation of the soon-to-open Ford Center for Arts and Learning.

National Transportation Week
National Transportation Week is an annual event celebrating the importance of the transportation industry's contributions to the economy; serving as an opportunity for transportation professionals to gather for industry-related events, meetings and conferences addressing key issues in the air, rail, trucking, shipping and automotive fields.

First observed in Houston in 1953, nearly a decade later in 1962, President John F. Kennedy declared a permanent date that would always be the week in May which contains the third Friday, National Defense Transportation Day, with Maritime Day on the following Saturday.

National Transportation Week is May 11-17. Check below for a complete listing of this years events, including the special WWJ Newsradio 950 business breakfast: 'The Future Of Transportation In Southeast Michigan.'
